Flashing the FaxPress EPROM (Windows Server 2003 only)

Other Related Topics...

The FaxPress server's EPROM contains firmware allowing the unit to log on to the Master File Server and download the FaxPress system files. This EPROM is used during the initial boot sequence and not during further operation of the FaxPress. For the FaxPress 9.x server software to be installed on Windows Server 2003, the FaxPress EPROM must first be flashed.

Windows Server 2003 support is available for FaxPress SBE, FaxPress 2500, FaxPress 5000, and FaxPress 7000 and 7500 only.

The FaxPress 9.x flash utility, FP Flash for TCPIP, is located in the FPFlash directory on the FaxPress 9.x CD.

To upgrade your FaxPress server's EPROM using the 9.x FP Flash for TCPIP utility, follow these steps:

1. If you have a new FaxPress unit not yet installed on your network, temporarily install the FaxPress server software on a Windows 2000/NT/XP system. (The EPROM must first be flashed and upgraded before you run the "real" server software install on your Windows Server 2003 system.) If FaxPress is already installed on your network, this does not apply.
2. Confirm the FaxPress server (any 5.x or 6.x or 7.0 version) is installed and operational, with a solid green status LED.
3. From the same network segment, find a Windows based workstation to run the EPROM flash utility.

Place the FaxPress 9.x CD in your CD-ROM drive.

4. Browse to the FPFLASH directory, and open the FP FLASH for TCPIP utility.
5. In the FaxPress Name field, type the FaxPress unit IP address, and click the Find BIN File button.
6. Select the BIN file associated with your FaxPress unit, and click OK.

The BIN files correspond to specific FaxPress units as follows:

2500-eth.bin for FaxPress 2500
SBE-eth bin for FaxPress SBE
5000-eth.bin for FaxPress 5000, 7000, and 7500

Only these FaxPress BIN files and servers support Windows Server 2003, although additional units and BIN files are listed.

7. Confirm you’ve selected the correct BIN file for your FaxPress server, then click Flash.
8. The upgrade process takes several minutes. When it's finished, read the status message, click OK, and Exit.
9. You are now ready to install your FaxPress software version 9.x on your Windows 2003 server.

If the BIN file does not seem to be flashing correctly, this can be corrected in some cases by copying the BIN file to your local drive and turning off the "read only" attribute. Then return to step 6, this time selecting the copy of the BIN file you have just created on your local drive. If you continue to have problems, please contact Castelle Technical Support.
